Engagements and Accounts
One engagement per macOS account, how to choose several, and what stays apart.
An engagement is one partner or client relationship. Work, meetings, documents, and people belong to one engagement.
One engagement per account
The default, and the one we recommend, is one engagement for each macOS user account. If you work for partners who must be kept apart, give each its own macOS account. Merriweather installs once in Applications, but each account has its own data, settings, permissions, and voice bank. Nothing crosses between accounts.
Choosing several
Some partners have no need to be kept apart. In Settings, under Engagements, turn on Allow several engagements in this account. An Add engagement button appears. Each engagement has an Edit button.
Once you have more than one engagement, the switch stays on.
Switching
The tracking item in the menu has a Switch to entry for each other engagement. Settings, under Engagements, has the same. The active one has a green dot.
Switching pauses the engagement you leave, ends the work block in progress, and starts observing the one you chose. Every window then shows the new engagement. The Notifications setting, if on, tells you which one is now active.
What stays apart
Between engagements in one account, each keeps its own:
- Ledger and totals
- Meetings, meeting folders, and voice bank
- Documents, projects, and known terms
- Follow-through items, and their list in Reminders
- Memory
- Notes on people
- Calendar choices
The Work Journal is shared by the account. See Assistants. Each journal entry is read into every engagement in turn, as that engagement is made active.
Calendar accounts
Merriweather reads the calendar accounts on this Mac. By default it reads the account that carries the engagement's work email. That account is shown in green under Calendar in Settings. Any other account can be switched on with its checkbox, and the choice is kept for that engagement only.
If an invitation lists someone only by address, Merriweather looks for the name in other invitations and in Contacts, if you allowed it. It can also ask your organization's directory. Under Calendar, the Directory row has a Sign in button for that.
The partner logo
Enter a Partner URL in the engagement form. When you save, Merriweather fetches the icon the site names and uses it as the partner's mark, beside the engagement in the menu, the Ledger, and Settings. A Company URL in the first form does the same for your own company.
The app asks the site you entered for its page and its icon, and sends nothing else. Privacy lists every request the app can make.
Meetings on a shared calendar
A meeting on a shared calendar is matched to an engagement by the addresses on its invitation. Where none matches, it goes to the engagement that is active.
